The Trump administration is reportedly revisiting a Biden-era policy that limits global access to U.S.-made AI chips. The current tiered system, which regulates the distribution of advanced semiconductors to different countries, may be scrapped entirely.

Sources indicate the proposed changes could transform U.S.-made AI chips into a more potent tool for international trade negotiations. The Commerce Department’s Framework for Artificial Intelligence Diffusion, enacted just days before the Biden administration left office, currently restricts the global proliferation of these critical components.
